A Thrilling Experience for a Young Mind at Henie Onstad Art Centre, Oslo, Norway

The camper is one of the central installations in “A Thrilling Experience for a Young Mind”. The exhibition features approximately 250 works by 100 artists from the Henie Onstad Art Centre’s collection.
One part of the exhibition showcases Nordic visual artwork from 1950 to 2023.
Inghild initially created the Caravan, made from seal and whale bones, for the 22nd International São Paulo Biennial in Brazil in 1994.

The sculpture is made from seal and whale bones. A caravan is considered a luxury phenomenon in Brazil, reserved for the rich. In Oslo, it is something most people can use for a vacation. Similarly, in Finnmark, it serves as a means of transportation. A caravan in nature is exotic, but in an urban area, it may tell a different story. “I like to find symbols that are so rich in meaning that they can be understood in many places, even if they are not understood in the same way in all of them.”
