The Silent Revolt exhibition sheds light on the Norwegian pioneers who in the 1970s and ’80s challenged the status of the work of art both as aesthetic object and commodity, and who with their silent revolt paved the way for today’s artistic practices.
The works presented range from photographs and video works that document land art, via interventions, performances, graphic art and photomontages, as well as larger sculptural works like a breathing earth balloon made of felt by Inghild Karlsen. The earth balloon in the Silent Revolt exhibition at the National Museum of Art in Oslo is nearly four metres in diameter and represents a protest action against oil drilling in Northern Norway.
