Epoch of the Crab
February 12 – 16, 2020
Barents Spektakkel, a Border Crossing Festival. Kirkenes, Norway
The festival is a cultural-political event featuring contemporary art and music, theatre and performance, literature and architecture, along with seminars and debates. It embodies the current issues related to the Barents Region and the High North in general. In 2020, the festival focused on the rise of nationalistic movements in Europe, the Brexit chaos, and the question of espionage and surveillance related to Russia.
At the Epoch of the Crab exhibition, Inghild Karlsen presented artworks centered on the theme of the king crab, a significant creature for the Northern Norwegian region. Inghild Karlsen showcased an installation with “troll crabs”, which are indicative of her focus on local materials, landscapes, and phenomena.
The work was featured as part of the Barents Spektakel/Pikene på Broen program.
