Around the turn of the millennium, Inghild Karlsen was travelling around the coast of Troms and Finnmark. She found a remarkable house on the shore in northern Troms. Kristian’s House was build by Kristian Andersen. After staying at Rønvik and Åsgård hospitals, the Sea Sami from Kvalsund in Finnmark found a kind of refuge at Rotsund farm in Nord-Troms. Here, he was allowed to create his own refuge, his own house. Kristian’s House was not an ordinary house, but it must nevertheless have had some kind of healing function in harmony with nature.

The unique construction suggests that Andersen possessed considerable skills, imagination, creativity and, not least, limited funds. The house can also be associated with other creative and improvised constructions in the region.
The house no longer exists, but people in the region still remember the house that stood on the shore below Rotsund farm. Inghild Karlsen’s made a book in collaboration with Harald Janet Jensen and Hans Petter Boyne. The book features photos and stories about this peculiar house.
