Albino Dogs Canada
1997
Outside Exhibition Center, Amos, Québec, Canada,
In 1997, Inghild presented the Red Eyed Albino Dogs for the first time during the 3rd Symposium of Visual Art, at Amos Exhibition Centre in Canada.
In Amos, the sculptures titled “Painted Dogs ” are located in Parc Rotary Harricana. The Albino dogs are a permanent work in the park outside the exhibition centre. The installation consists of several life-sized, stylised white dogs made of fibreglass or a similar composite material, each with glowing or painted, vibrant red eyes.
Karlsen’s “Red-Eyed Dogs” are meant to evoke themes of vigilance and surveillance. In the context of Amos, they represent the link between the domestic world and the untamed northern wilderness. Their red eyes are a signature element of Karlsen’s work, often interpreted as a reference to infrared technology or the glowing eyes of animals in the dark.
