Janus

2002
Double face sculpture Janus outside the Police Station in Kirkenes, North Norway

With its double face, the sculpture Janus relates to its surroundings in Kirkenes, but remains autonomous and self-contained, defined by its simplicity and clear symbolism. Double-headed figures, such as this sculpture, symbolise the dualities of human nature. A beginning and an end, an action and a result, a destiny and a choice. It does not take sides with one or the other, but represents both the good and evil forces within humanity.
