The Dachshund Mascot

2005
In front of Hålogaland Theater, Tromsø, Norway

From the Hålogaland theatre foyer, you can see a small red bronze dog on the quay outside, looking out to the ocean. When a performance starts inside the theatre, the dachshund mascot wags its tail. The tail is mechanised so that the dog’s tail wags every time a theatre performance begins.
This is one of the theatre’s two dachshund mascots. The other is located on the roof of the old Rådstua building from 1864, which was the Hålogaland Theatre’s first home in the 1970s.
