The Four, Art for Everyone at Hovlitunet, Hov, Søndre Land, Norway

Inghild Karlsen decorated this outdoor space in collaboration with Bo Bisgaard. The four statues were for the Art for All project and are located at Hovlitunet Care Centre in Hov.
“The idea came after visiting the site. The beautiful building is of solid wood both inside and outside. In addition, the surroundings are lush greenery and landscape. The thought struck me: how can I highlight this? Contrasts attract each other and can strengthen the impression of the place, thereby highlighting the building and its surroundings.

With the choice of cast concrete, one may be invited to reflect on the location, the tradition of woodwork and the architecture. I have therefore chosen an expression that I hope the people who live there and those who come to visit may recognise themselves in. Norway is changing, and as the years go by, the users are not only white Norwegians but also have more diverse genetic backgrounds than before. I wanted to give the place something foreign, but at the same time something familiar expressed through sculptures that are associated with us humans.”
